How to create an online invitation, step by step

From blank page to shared link takes six steps. Here's each one, with the settings that matter and the ones you can leave as they are.

Where do you start when creating an online invitation?

With the event type and theme: they set the tone and suitable settings. If your occasion has a template page, start there: the card is already set up.

Ready templates: 30th birthday, housewarming, baby shower, leaving do, and many more on the guides page.

What goes on the card?

The title, message, date and time, venue and address. The rest is optional: host name, end time, dress code, photo.

You can also set the colour, the font (four styles) and an emoji. One language per invitation: choose English or French, and the guest page follows.

How do you set up guest replies?

First decide whether guests can bring someone, and how many at most. Then set a deadline and add the question you need most (allergies, meal, who's bringing what).

Keep the link open for a party with friends; limit it to your list if you need to control who comes. Every setting is explained in managing RSVPs online.

How do you publish and share the invitation?

Tap "Publish and share": the link is created and won't change again. Share it with the WhatsApp or SMS buttons, or copy it anywhere.

Sharing on WhatsApp, with message ideas, is covered in WhatsApp invitations. For timing, see when to send invitations.

Can you edit an invitation you've already sent?

Yes, any time, and the link doesn't change: everyone who opens it sees the new version. Replies already received are kept.

If the party is off, you can cancel the event: the page tells guests. If you upgrade, your invitation, guests and replies all stay in place.

Which settings can you leave as they are?

For a party with friends, nearly all of them. An open link, a visible guest list and one plus-one per guest suit most birthdays and parties.

Only change them if your event needs it. A surprise party needs a hidden guest list. A wedding or company event often needs a closed list. A kids' party sometimes needs zero plus-ones, so each link counts one child. The deadline is the one setting we suggest adding almost every time: it gives guests a cue and lets you nudge without awkwardness.

Which plan should you start with?

Start free: you can create, publish and share your invitation for up to 10 guests. If you go over, you upgrade without losing anything.

Invitotte+ (€9.90 once) suits most parties of up to 150 guests. Big event (€29.90 once) is for weddings and big parties of up to 500. Pro (€19 a month, or €14 a month billed yearly) is for companies that organise events often. Refunds can be requested from your account within 14 days.
